Do ALL your drivers have induction training?

24 Jul 2010

A South West based Logistics Company has been fined £200,000 after a vineyard owner was killed when empty wine bottles he was unloading from the tail-lift of a truck, fell onto him.

The prosecution brought by the HSE, was told that in April 2008, the deceased, had been helping to unload a delivery of bottles from the back of the vehicle, driven by an agency driver.

The load fell from the tail-lift causing fatal head and chest injuries.

HSE says the accident highlights the dangers involved in unloading large and heavy loads using a tail-lift.

"Employers should ensure that employees are given the right equipment, information, instruction and training to allow them to unload loads safely".

"Where employers use the services of agency staff they should ensure that those agency staff are aware of the systems of work in place and have the skills and training to undertake the required tasks".

"Tail-lifts should be examined by a competent person at least every six months to ensure that they are safe to use".

Contemplating retirement next year, we at Wttl think Mr Pratt will probably be with us for longer, heres to the next 25??!

"And pull away when the light turns green”

1 Jul 2010

After the decision to miss the British championship rounds, the only race for the Wttl sponsored truck is the annual outing to the Nurburgring at the end of July. As pre race testing the Seddon was entered in the BTRA Sprint Cup at Santa Pod last weekend.

With an improvement on last year of over 3 mph, the truck reached 0 to 90.81 mph in 14 secs over the quarter mile track. As the fastest class B runner of the weekend things look good for the trip to Germany.
Winner of the weekend was the MAN of Ricky Collett, the only driver to push through 100 mph.
