Langdons - SAFED

7 Oct 2010

Alongside a comphrensive NVQ training plan for over 400 drivers and 150 warehouse operatives, Wttl have trained Langdon's in house SAFED Instructor trainers. Using these trainers, Langdons have rolled out the SAFED programme throughout their driver workforce with some excellent results.

Ron Smith, Training Manager for Langdons, gives an outline of the benefits:

“All our trainer/assessors have recently attended a SAFED development instructors course with Wttl. On the first opportunity we had to put this training into practice the savings made were quite significant, if this could be replicated across the country, the savings for Langdons and the environment would be huge”.

An example of the savings comes from an assessment carried out on 20th July 2010. The driver did 3 trips to Wiveliscombe, where, with the SAFED training given, fuel efficiency increased from 6.70 mpg to 8.60 mpg after the 3rd run, this equates to a total improvement of 28.4%.

Wiltshire Council - SAFED

4 Oct 2010

Wttl have been working alongside what was Kennet Council (now the unitary Wiltshire Council) to drive down their fuel costs using the SAFED programme.

The scheme has been a success, with Wiltshire Council Workforce Supervisor Ian Spanswick telling us:

“SAFED driver training has significantly reduced our fuel usage; the course also helped staff understand how driving practices have changed over the years with developments in engine technology. It has improving driving standards and reduced maintenance costs. In many cases it has made a noticeable difference in their own cars which is a benefit for all”.

Thamesdown Transport

2 Oct 2010

Kevan Wildy
(Training Manager, Thamesdown Transport, Swindon)

“When we wanted our in-house instructors to complete a train the trainer course for SAFED the first place we turned to was Wtll, as we were already aware of the standard they provide.

Our four instructors thoroughly enjoyed their course and felt confident with the delivery to our staff. The drivers are enjoying the SAFED training and see it as a way forward to match the technology of the new buses in the fleet and cater for today’s road and traffic conditions.

We recently experienced our first JAUPT Driver CPC audit, the course being delivered was SAFED, the auditor gave a very good review of the content, delivery and outcome of the course”

Wiltshire Fire & Rescue

31 Jul 2010

After a brief break, 2010 saw Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service resume LGV Cat C training with Wttl.

Since mid January this year, we have had seven candidates attend our standard 5-day course, with all seven passing first time. As you can imagine this is something we at Wttl are very proud of, and it would not be possible without candidates who are willing to learn and arrive on day 1 raring to go.

The 'Magnificent Seven' are:

Firefighter Edward Purbrick
Firefighter Paul Leney
Firefighter Matthew Skyme
Firefighter Paul Howell
Firefighter Chris Hughes
Firefighter David Watkins
Firefighter Mark Evans

Alex Walsh, Driver Trainer for Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service, has been key in organising all their training and is as pleased as we are with the results.

Alex told us: "Once again a job well done. Please pass on our thanks to all concerned. I don't want to jinx the current pass rate but would like to congratulate the excellent work by your training staff"

Wttl are looking forward to continuing our exceptional relationship with Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service and help support them in carrying out the remarkable service they provide to our community.
